This milder air spreads over the region Saturday, warming into the upper 70s and low 80s. As the high slips off to the east tomorrow night, skies will remain clear, and eastern areas will again be cool, though not quite as cool, in the upper 40s and 50s, while a southerly breeze develops west of the Green Mountains, keeping temperatures there in the 50s to near 60. Areas of dense river valley fog also develop, but the chill and the fog will burn off to brilliant sunshine tomorrow, a delightful afternoon in store. Clear skies and light winds set the stage for a cool, even chilly night, dropping into the 40s for most places, maybe a few upper 30s in the coldest mountain valleys north. High pressure over the Ohio Valley, blending with another piece over the Great Lakes will build in today, and crest over us later tonight. Add in the fresh northwest breeze and it will feel that much cooler. Afternoon readings will only reach the upper 50s to mid 60s north, and upper 60s to mid 70s south. With the front pushing east and south, and some rather chilly air following, you can expect periods of clouds and sun, more clouds in the northern mountains, where a few leftover sprinkley showers will dry up by midday. A second cold front is just moving through this morning, with a few more showers, mainly in northern areas overnight into early this morning. A cold front, followed by a series of minor disturbances yesterday, gradually cooled the atmosphere, speckling the landscape with a few passing showers. You’ve got to admit, it certainly feels a bit like September this morning, certainly a big change from the steam heat at the beginning of the week.
